I am a wife, mother and fiber artist living outside of Houston in Fulshear, Texas. I received my degree in studio art from Scripps College in Claremont, California. Although I've worked in different media over the years, working with cloth and fiber is where I am most "at home".
At some level I have always turned to art making as a form of healing and even prayer. I see my dolls both as companions and containers that can safely hold feelings that I may be working through. Many times I have given dolls as gifts to friends or loved ones who may be walking through a difficult season. Creating my dolls brings me to a place where my soul can rest. It is my hope that the dolls I make now will touch others as they have touched me as I made them.
These words from Rachel Naomi Remen, MD (author of Kitchen Table Wisdom), pretty much sum up my "art philosophy":
"At the deepest level, the creative process and the healing process arise from a single source. When you are an artist, you are a healer; a wordless trust of the same mystery is the foundation of your work and its integrity."
